Gwendoline Ruais, who bested 24 other candidates in the first Miss World-Philippines beauty pageant to represent the Philippines in the Miss World 2011 pageant, said that she did it for her country. In an interview with Miss World judges, the 21-year-old from Muntinlupa City said: “People asked me why I stopped modeling when I was doing well. My answer, when you’re modeling, you do it for yourself. It’s a personal thing. But when you join Miss World Philippines, you represent your country. You’re an ambassador. You can help others in the causes you believe in.”

Miss Philippines Gwendoline Ruais, who got a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management last year, is considered the first beauty who won the title of the first runner-up or the second place– the highest finish so far for the Philippines in the competition.

The 1.83 m tall beauty queen Gwendoline Ruais describes herself as a confident and friendly girl. Ruais inherited height and grace from her mother, who is well-known as a former international model. The 1st runner-up of this year’s pageant began her career as a model when she was 12 years old. Ruais was still a teenager as she first participated in a beauty contest; however, she was not so lucky to make it. Gwendoline Ruais’ previous failure encouraged her to get her dream. And she finally got the prestigious title as she competed in London.
